“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.”

Earlier this month, I was signed up to attend a photography event in the Carolinas. I was looking forward to the event as a time to reconnect with my friends in photography. Unfortunately, the event was postponed. This same event was canceled last year due to weather.
Rather than spending those two weekends disappointed, my friends and I created our own photography weekends.
This year we rented a house on Roan Mountain so that we could be close to the balds where the rhododendrons were blooming.
We spent part of the weekend on Round Bald hiking and photographing.
I was so intent on capturing the layers of the scene before me, that it wasn’t until my friend yelled, “rainbow”, that I actually saw it.
Although I have spent many years photographing at Roan Mountain in springtime, this is the first time I have ever photographed The Miller Farmstead, located in Roan Mountain State Park. My friends and I spent as much time photographing at the farmstead this visit as we did on the balds.
While the rhododendrons were what led us to the area, my favorite image from the weekend was taken at the Roan Mountain State Park Visitor Center. I loved the combination of these beautiful flowers and ferns.
While I was disappointed that our scheduled event was postponed, I thoroughly enjoyed our second annual makeup event which consisted of photographing, discussing photography, and friendship.
