Well, the snow didn’t exactly come last night, but began falling this morning.  Once it started, it continued steadily throughout the day.

A snow day brings as much excitement to me now as it did when I was a child.  As soon as the ground was almost completely covered, I knew  it was time to go exploring.

I currently live in the same neighborhood where I grew up.  The need for exploration and the joy of missing a school day remain the same as when I was a child.  The thing that changed was the gear that I grabbed as I headed out of the door.  In my childhood, I always grabbed my trusty sled.  Unfortunately, my sled was a sled better suited for Pennsylvania, my first childhood home.  South Carolina can rarely handle the runners on an old-fashioned sled.  Today, rather than grabbing a sled, I reached for my camera gear.

Randy, Maui, and I went out to explore.

Snow not only covered the ground, but also rested in the tree branches creating a winter wonderland.

We made our way to the golf courses where the children always gather for sledding opportunities.  On the way, we had to pass through a tunnel.

Maui was certainly enjoying the snowy adventure.

Our travels also took us past a playground.  I was drawn to the bright, cheerful colors.

We did see many children and families sledding and enjoying an adventure in the snow.  It was great to see so many people enjoying activities outdoors.

Three hours and 15,000 steps later, Randy, Maui, and I finished our walk around our neighborhood.  We were soaking wet, tired, sore, and hungry.  It was such a wonderful day!

How do you like to spend a snow day?
