“Travel is the only context in which some people ever look around. If we spent half the energy looking at our own neighborhoods, we’d probably learn twice as much.”

I live in the same town I have lived in for most of my life since I was ten years old. Spending that much time in one place allows you to grow roots and enjoy the traditions of a place.
My town is one of the best places to spend
the Fourth of July. Each year there are many festive events planned for the holiday. These include a land parade, fish fry, and evening fireworks display.
This year, I spent time leading up to the holiday weekend preparing for a neighborhood gathering. As I prepared, I enjoyed seeing how my town also prepared for the weekend.
One of the best parts of the weekend was being able to spend time with my son, Jeremy, and daughter-in-law, Abi.
We enjoyed the parade Saturday morning.
Immediately after the parade, we made our final preparations for welcoming our neighbors.
Abi is gifted with creating charcuterie boards. Her creations are truly works of art.
We had an incredible time with Abi, Jeremy and our neighbors Saturday.
Randy and I enjoyed the neighborhood concert Saturday evening.
The holiday weekend was completed with an amazing display of fireworks Sunday.
This weekend was a delightful time to spend with my family and my neighbors in an incredibly special place.
Through the years we have spent Fourth of July weekends in other locations. However, there is something so extraordinary about the Fourth of July holiday in my town!
